New Interview with NWA World JHC #1 Contender, Van Martigan

The #1 contender for Arrick Andrews’ NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship, Van Martigan, has an extensive resume of his own.  A multiple time NWA Mid America Tag Team Champion and the lightest NWA Mid America Heavyweight Champion in NWA history, Van is ready to take his talents to the next level and challenge for a world championship.

Dallas

Hey, Van! I hear you have a huge match coming up.
Van
I do.
Dallas
You’ve actually been doing a ton in singles lately. How does it feel to be having so much success?
Van
It’s wonderful, a little different, because I was doing tag team stuff for a good while. Things change and I’m doing my own thing and it’s paying off.
Dallas
You just had a reign  with the Mid America Heavyweight Championship, does it feel odd competing a weight division lower for the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship?
Van
It doesn’t feel odd at all. I’m the lightest person ever to hold the NWA Mid-America Heavyweight Championship, so competing for The NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title is more in my flavor, since it’s the weight class I’m more familiar with being in.
Dallas
The NWA is usually more traditional as far as in ring style. However, Junior Heavyweights all around the world are gaining notoriety for their fast paced style. If you win the World Championship, how do you think you compare to the elite Junior Heavyweights across the globe?
Van
I’m not a typical Junior Heavyweight. Though I am quick and can fly, I stick to wrestling. That’s what I do best. I think that gives me an edge, most guys are worrying about taking flight, and I’m focused on the name of the game and that’s wrestling. Though I stick to wrestling, I can be a little fancy with it. I do a little thing called Razzle Dazzle. I add a little sizzle to wrestling of old, that most Junior Heavyweights don’t use as much.
Dallas
So for fans who aren’t familiar with you, you would describe yourself as a showman and technician in the ring?
Van
Very much so. I do a lot of jive talkin’ and funky walkin’. I strut and kick butt. It’s easier to apply a hold or counter a hold when you get your opponent side tracked mentally. Plus the fans love it. They love to see that Razzle Dazzle that I do in the ring.
Dallas
It seems like you’re very confident and focused before one of the biggest matches of your career. Is there anything that you want your fans to know before you face Arrick Andrews?
Van
Confidence is key. If you don’t believe in yourself you can’t win a title as prestigious as the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship. If I didn’t believe in myself I’d be just another rooty poot, wishing they had a shot at this title. If there is anything I want the fans to know its that I am thankful for all the support they give me. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be nothing, no matter how good I could be in the ring, they give me just that extra bit of motivation. I want them all to be there May 12th in Hanover, Indiana when I face Arrick Andrews. He’s not someone to take lightly, he’s a competitor. He’s not the champion for no reason at all, he’s earned it. I’m bringing that title home, for myself and the fans, because they are my people, and it’s going to be their title just as much as it’s going to be mine. May 12th is the day that I show the world that Wrestling Is BAE

Dallas
I can’t wait to find out what happens. Thank you, Van.
Van
Thank you for taking the time to interview me.
